EAST TIMOR

Final Report of the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation in East Timor (January 2006).
The Commission is an independent statutory authority that inquired into human rights violations committed on all sides, between April 1974 and October 1999. It aimed to facilitate community reconciliation with justice for those who committed less serious offenses.  The Commission could not give amnesty. To access the FinalReport, click here.

Recently declassified documents from the National Security Archive confirm U.S. President Gerald Ford's and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger's foreknowledge of the Indonesian government's plan to invade Portuguese East Timor in 1975. These U.S. Government documents also indicate the context of U.S. policies towards East Timor.
East Timor Revisited

A major new report (9 Februrary 2006) to the Commission on Reception, Truth and Reconciliation by the Benetech Human Rights Data Analysis Group rigorously estimates the number of deaths resulting from the occupation of East Timor by units of the Indonesian armed forces.
