Foreword

Gus’ memoirs are dedicated to our children, Ruth, Judy and Richard, our grandchildren and their offspring.

"Carry on in his footsteps and your offspring will reap as you have sown"

These words were spoken by my uncle Lutz, to my husband Gus, while we were in New York, on our way to Canada in 1951.

With this in mind he lived his life.

Gus wrote his memoirs in 1985 while a very sick man.

Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to write about our life in Montreal as he had hoped to do. However he did write a meaningful and beautiful account of his life as a child and young adult survivor in Germany and Holland and his time in the concentration camps. These memoirs were never meant for publication. They were simply an account of his life, which he wanted to share with his immediate family and insure that the information would be passed on.

A heartfelt thank you to Carol Burke for her help.
