The Team is a soap opera depicting a the lives of the members of a Kenyan football team bringing together many of Kenya's tribal groups. Financed by a group of wealthy international philanthroposts and business people, it is created in the hope that the sport will provide a way of neutralizing the ethnic hatred experienced by Kenya after the 2007 elections.
Prof. Joel D. Barkan has been following Kenyan politics since he first visited the country as a student in 1962. In addition to his academic research, he worked in Kenya for USAID as the first democracy and governance advisor in the early 1990's. After returning to academia, Prof. Barkan continued his research in Kenya for USAID as well as the World Bank.
